Karie Z. Bennett cut her own bangs on her third birthday, wrote a book when she was eight, and the rest is destined for her memoirs. 2011 marked her 30th year as a hairstylist, and she celebrated by launching a second career as a writer, and a third as a business coach and speaker. She attends The Writer’s Studio program at Stanford University, is a contributing writer for Salon Today magazine, and writes as the San Jose Small Business Examiner for examiner.com. After winning the beauty industry's most prestigious business award, the 2011 NAHA Salon Master of Business, for her Atelier Salonspa and Atelier Studio salons, she is sharing her unique journey from behind-the-chair to business ownership and with honesty and humor. A tireless champion of the entrepreneur, this workshop becomes interactive, with the listener participating and diving into their own entrepreneurial spirit for an answer to the question, "What's next?"

Karie Z. Bennett's Bio

With 30 years of salon experience and numerous industry awards, Karie's hairstyling and makeup work has been seen on the covers of local magazines, television and video. She leads the Atelier creative team at multiple fashion runway shows and photo shoots per year, and is an often-requested artist for hair and makeup for television and film projects, and is recognized as a leader in the salon industry as a hairstylist.

Her first Atelier, an Aveda concept salon, opened in Los Altos in 1997, in a tiny alleyway location.  In 2002 she opened Atelier, an Aveda Lifestyle SalonSpa at Santana Row in San Jose, and in 2007, Atelier Studio opened its doors.  Her belief that all employees at Atelier should have career paths have grown her business to the point where Salon Today Magazine has named Atelier Salons to be among the top 200 fastest growing salons in North America for 8 years, and are frequently awarded top honors from the Aveda Corporation.

Now leading her company of 45 employees and growing, Karie is the recipient of the 2008 Global Salon Business Award, given to only 75 salon owners in the world, and only 7 in the United States. She has recently been awarded the most prestigious beauty industry accolade, the 2011 North American Hairstyling Association's Salon Master of Business Award(MBA).

Karie is on a mission...to improve the hair industry...one hairstylist at a time!  Her Atelier™ Prote'ge' program is recognized as an educational standard to take stylists from Beauty School to 'behind the chair'.  She continues to make education and inspiration a priority and her belief in listening to and educating the client at every visit has built her a loyal salon clientele, as well as helped a new generation of hair artists find their way to success.  Be Inspired is her mantra, and education is her beacon. 2011 Salon Today- Women of Substance Article
